Applications for wet blasting carbon fibre aerospace components

Aerospace MRO

Thanks to its high strength-to-weight ratio, fatigue and corrosion resistance, and many other reasons, carbon fibre is widely used in aerospace.

Wet blasting has several applications for aerospace carbon fibre components:

• Surface preparation for bonding and painting
• Edge deburring after manufacturing
• Surface finishing to a desired surface roughness or aesthetic appearance
• Cleaning and degreasing, wet blasting removes all contaminants and residues
• NDT preparation, cleaning and removing coatings

The key advantages of wet blasting over other finishing processes include:

• Components don’t need to be cleaned and dried before processing
• Thanks to the cushioning effect of water there’s no risk of damaging fibres
• Wet blasting creates a uniform ‘wet out’ surface that’s ideal for the application of adhesives and coatings
